| • If daylilies haven't flowered well, it's probably due to overcrowding. Dig up entire clumps; than remove soil from roots to expose the crown. Pull plants apart by hand, or spilt with a sharp knife. Trim off about a third of the top leaves, unless the planting bed is prepared and ready to go. Replant the new divisions about 12 to 18 inches apart. • Start planting mums to provide color in late summer and fall. Mums need at least 5 hours of very bright light in order to grow well. Morning sun is preferred to intense afternoon sun, and 3 or 4 hours of sunlight with a few hours of good reflected light will suffice. • Making last application of fertilizer to the lawn and landscape plantings for the year. • Also, note the preferred fertilizers for the following: • Abelia - 13-6-6 • Althea- an azalea-camellia formulation • Butterfly Bush - 13-6-6 • Crape Myrtle - 13-6-6 • Golden Rain tree - 13-6-6 • Jerusalem Thorn - 13-6-6 • Mallow Hibiscus- an azalea-camellia formulation • Oleander - 13-6-6 |
