  • Prepare gardens beds for spring plantings. Keep seedlings well watered and covered on really cold nights.

  • In case of hard freeze, use moss or pine straw to cover pansies and other winter plants such as snapdragons.

  • Remove coverings as the weather warms.

  • Divide dahlias, gerbera daisies, and other perennials.

  • Fertilize cool season flowers such as pansies, snapdragons, dianthus, and ornamental kale.

  • Examine your lawnmower. Drain the gas. Change the spark plugs and points.

  • Wait until February to prune anything, except for dead and diseased wood.

  • Get your tools sharpened and greased for heavy pruning of roses and fruit trees for next month.
