June |
| • This month is the best time to seed Bahia, Bermuda or centipede lawn. Prepare first by tilling thoroughly and working in a 2" layer of finely decomposed compost or leaf mold. Distribute seeds evenly with a drop-type spreader. Water thoroughly and cover with a thin layer of hay. Water for at least 2 weeks. • Recommended growing heights for preferred area grasses are: Bermuda and Zoyia 1/2-1", Centipede & Carpet grass 1-2"; St. Augustine and Bahia 2-4". • If you fertilized your lawn, trees, shrubs, and ground covers back in March, June is time to re-fertilize. • Continue to prune shrubs as they complete their blooming period. Don't dare prune azaleas after this month; if you do, you'll be cutting off next years flower blossoms. • Pinch mums for bushier plants. • White flies, aphids and that awful sooty mold can look bad on crape myrtles and gardenias. Control it with a fungicide |
